If these pictures are any indication, we are singing our hearts out over here and having the time of our lives. We’ve played a slew of amazing venues to incredible crowds and are loving every moment. We recently wrapped a show a Redrocks which I will never forget. This tour will come to a close soon and I am doing my best to savor every moment. Continue reading
I am pinching myself right now!! The chance to sing for Sir Paul McCartney?!? Are you kidding me!? This HAS to be one of the biggest highlights of my career! I can get pretty excited about a session call but will keep my expectations low knowing that the artist won’t always be there. My heart began to race a little faster; however, when we were greeted at the door by a large security guard who checked our purses and requested no photos. He was here! He was actually going to be at the session! The recording studio was not a studio at all. It was held in a large cathedral in the heart of LA. The acoustics were fantastic. Sir Paul was a complete gentleman and even invited us back into their make-shift “booth” at the end to let us hear the final product. As we left, he made it a point to shake each of our hands and say thank you. Not only was he completely sweet and humble, but he even had his completed CD mailed out to our homes! We may not have been allowed to take pictures in the church, but that didn’t stop us from taking a group pic outside!
I always get excited when I get a call from my friends Elyse and Chris Willis because I know something amazing is about to happen. Chris’ compositions have to turn on a dime depending on what the cartoon throws at him so it’s always something different. My last session with them was yodeling, but this time the request was to sing sustained high “C’s” and high “D’s”. If you’re able to take a moment to enjoy this quirky cartoon, be listening for the operatic section towards the end.
Before our tour gets officially underway I wanted to take a moment to reflect on where we’ve been. Here are a few memories from the times we’ve spent together. I just love working with these beautiful people and am so excited about the adventures we’ll have together!
I’m so excited to announce that I have a new boss! And what better boss to have then Alfred Yankovic otherwise know as Weird Al. He was so gracious as to invite me and my singer friends along for what he has described as his “most full-blown, over the top extravaganza ever.”
I’ll be bringing along Little Al for all of our adventures so stay tuned for updates on all of the shenanigans!
Working on Olaf’s Frozen Adventure was a blast. There’s so much we got through in this session, it was so exciting to see all of the parts that made it in. I got a few neat solos like the one for the lady who sings “Well… we hang up bows of evergreen on every single doorway.” Plus, a little duet I did with my best friend Baraka. We’re both little kids, I’m the older sister and she’s the younger brother who sings, “Eight nights in a row we light the menorah on our mantle,” and it’s even possible that there’s a little Monique kitten at the end… ha! Meow!
Fun session today at Warner Brother’s scoring stage. I can’t believe Steven Spielberg was actually there. Allan Silvestri’s music was so beautiful to sing – We sang everything from ominous to angelic.- and my strand partner Diane and I just happened to be a little matchy, matchy…Ha!
This week I got to do a fun shoot for a TV show called Living Biblically. We were on set for two days as a part of their gospel choir. It’s a comedy where the main character is faced with the challenge of “living by the book”…no lies, cheating, etc. The show was really funny and a joy to work on.
This year I have have been so thrilled to have been able to work with Katy Pery. First, we had the opportunity to sing with her on the song “Pendulum” from her recent album Witness, which debuted to rave reviews. She did some really fun things to promote this one. We surprised her with an impromptu serenade at her amazing Los Angeles studio and sang with her on a fan appreciation live stream for her YouTube channel just after. She’s a such a gracious person and a wonderful person to work with.
